Can active pickups work without batteries?
Yes, active pickups need 9V batteries to work. Active pickups have an inbuilt preamp, which requires power to run. If you try to use active pickups without a battery, you won’t get any signal at all.
Are active pickups noisy?
Yes. Compared to passive pickups active pickups are dead quiet even when playing with a high-gain setting. You can leave your guitar on the stand and it won’t make any noise at all.
