In late 2007, a koi named Big Girl was in the news for being the world’s biggest koi fish. Big Girl weighed in at a whopping 90 lbs (40.8 kg) and was 4 feet (1.2 m) long!
Koi are much larger than goldfish, but can withstand low temperatures and will hibernate during winter. Koi grow an average of two centimeters per month, often-times reaching a maximum length of over 3 feet (sometimes considered “jumbo”).
While koi fish can jump, they will typically remain in the water unless something is wrong. Of course, if they are pushed up by a different fish, they may do a small jump. If they are jumping significantly enough to land outside the pond, though, something is wrong. There are several reasons that this may happen.
How High Can Koi Fish Jump? Knowing that koi fish can jump, the next question is often: well, how high can they jump. The best rule of thumb: koi will likely jump higher than you would think, even up to 6 feet. In fact, it’s certainly not unusual for them to clear at least a few feet.
